I have a degree in mathematics and spent many years working
in the computer industry but gave up my full time occupation to
pursue my interest in arts and crafts.
I took up woodcarving and working with wood led to producing pictures by picking out details in the grain of the wood and enhancing these by burning in the design. I particularly appreciate the natural intricacies seen in the grain of the wood and aim to enhance these rather than detracting from them. The drawings are imaginatively integrated into the natural patterns already there making every picture unique. “Every piece of wood is different so it is impossible to have two pictures exactly the same.”
I live in Nottinghamshire and have been working with wood since 1992. Since then I have had many exhibitions and my pictures are stocked in galleries in different parts of the country.
My exhibitions in 2007 included solo exhibitions:
- The Yard Gallery, Wollaton Hall, Nottingham;
- All Saints, Hereford;
- Longnor Craft Centre, Longnor, Derbyshire; and
- Attenborough Nature Reserve, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire.
I have a workshop and small gallery in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, as part of the D H Lawrence Heritage Centre, where I have selection of pictures and sculptures are on display.
